FREEDOM

Sir, —It is quite time we realised where we are drifting. The early pioneers were a hardy, self-reliant, vigorous, God-fearing lot of men and women, who set a high value on freedom and privacy. How quickly we must have degenerated to a state of effeminacy to even think of becoming slaves to a Government —slaves to a body of men who cannpt be dominant without being domineering and who exploit themselves more than the country. We have only to look at Russia and Germany to see what is in store for us—the "masters" regulate the people's lives down to the smallest item of diet, skimpy at best, and for the workers mostly old horse. In a young country why is all this legislation necessary P Why cannot we live more by God's laws and less by Mr. Savage's? This is a serious matter to a manly and self-reliant race. Freedom has always been a watch-word of the English, and freedom is now in jeopardy. Citizen.
