OBITUARY

MAJOR-GENERAL J. H. LAYE ASSOCIATION WITH DOMINION (Received Juno 27, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, June 26 The death has occurred of MajorGeneral Joseph Henry Laye, C.8., C.V.0., aged 89. He was born in Auckland, the son of the late General J. H. Laye, C.Ji., and Sirs. Laye, who was a daughter of General Leslie Dean Pitt, Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand. Joseph Henry Laye was educated privately and at Sandhurst, and entered the 90th L ; ght Infantry as an ensign in 1867. He served in the Kaffir War, 1877-78, and the Zulu War of 1879. Later be held various military appointments in England, and in 1905 was general officer commanding the Infantry Brigade at Gibraltar.
