PAINFUL MISHAP

BRASS GUN BACK-FIRES INCIDENT ON CUTTY SARK LONDON, June 16 As Commander G. C. Steele, superintendent of tho Thames Nautical Training College, fired a farewell salute from a brass cannon on board tho Cutty Sark, tho famous clipper ship, as she was leaving Falmouth for London, the gun back-fired and lit a quantity ol powder on the deck. Commander Steele's clothing was set on fire. Ho rushed across the deck and his colleagues tore off his clothes. He was taken to shore in a launch and admitted to hospital suffering from severe burns.
