BOXING
ARRIVAL OF YOUNG GILDO CONTESTS ON MONDAY NEXT Brought especially to New Zealand to Snowy Clark, Young Gildo, the Filipino lightweight, arrived on the Mariposa yesterday in first-class condition and brimful of smiling confidence. With a highly successful season in Australia just concluded, ho is looking forward to his bouts in this country with immense enthusiasm. Clark should prove an ideal opponent. Quick, clever, and with wonderful recuperative powers, he is expected to make a great fight of it and the contest is already arousing much interested comment among* boxing followers. The widely-demanded return bout between Johnnv Dean, of .London, and Bob McLachlan will provide a bright and speedy prelude to the main event. Dean is particularly anxious to show that his defeat at the hands of Johnson need in no way detract from his reputation, as he is Quite capable of defeating tho best of the local men in his own division. The bout will be of eight thrcenunute rounds. The whole evening's entertainment promises to make next Monday night's programme a memorable one and a worthy successor to the excellent fights already staged in tho lown Hall this season
