THEFTS BY SEAMAN
ACCUSED SENT TO PRISON [by telegraph—own correspondent] ROTORTTA, Monday Charged with the theft of a radio amplifying set, with issuing a valueless cheque and with the theft of a cheque form, Frank Ross, aged 32, seaman, appeared before Messrs. 0. H. Coleman and J. Dillon, J.P.'e, in the Police Court this morning. Accused pleaded guilty. "This man apparently set out to discover how soft New Zealanders are," said* Senior-Sergeant E. J. Carroll. Accused, he continued, was a native of .England. He had left his ship at Auckland some weeks prior to the offences. On the charge of the theft of a nadio amplifier and on the charge of issuing a valueless cheque accused was sentenced to three weeks' imprisonment, the terms to be concurrent. He was convicted and discharged on the ch.|rge of stealing a cheque form.
