PAPATOETQE SEASON • NEW OFFICERS ELECTED IMPROVED FINANCIAL POSITION An improved financial position was reported at the annual meeting of the Papatoetoe Bowling Club. The president, Mr. J. McFarland. reported that during the year -the bank overdraft had been reduced by almost £IOO. The report stated that membership had been well maintained. Improvements to the greens and outside areas had been effected. Appreciation was expressed of the work of the groundsman and his assistants. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr. C. R. MOUNT EDEN CLUB'S OFFICERS The balance-sheet presented at the, annual meeting of the Mount Eden Bowling Club showed that the finances were in a healthy position. The following officers were elected: —Patron, the Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. R. J.. Mills;-president, Mr. T. McNab; vicepresident, Mr. W. Marshall; secretary, C. S. Cave; treasurer, W. Bigelow; managing council, Messrs. J. H. Baker, Delamore, Dignan, C. L. Gillies; match committee, Messrs. JoU, Findlay, L. H. Campbell; auditor, H. Gribble; green superintendent R. Hull; delegates to Auckland Centre, Messrs. T. McNab, A. Dignan, W. E. Vivian. It was decided to enter 10 teams for the pennant competition. EPSOM CLUB The'report'presented at the annual meeting of the Epsom Bowling Club stated that improvements to the caretaker's cottage and to the pavilion had been > carried out at a cost of £2OO. SEASON AT STANLEY There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the .Stanley Bowling Club, at which the retiring president, Mr. T. Mason, occupied the - chair. The annual report and balance-sheet showed the club to be in . a better financial state than ever before, and the indications were that the coming season would be a very successful one. Mr. R. ' MANGERE CLUB Congratulations to the executive of the ' Mangere Bowling Club on its achievements during the past year were expressed at the annual meeting. The president, Mr. H. E. Fricker, submitted the report, which showed that through the greatly improved finances it had been possible to, release the bank guarantors who had stood by the club since its formation in 1925. On behalf of the members, the patron, Mr. 8. W. House, expressed appreciation of this achievement. Tributes were paid to the service rendered the club by Mr. W- J- Douglas, one of , the foundation members, and he was elected a life-member. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. S. W. Friday Although playing conditions were rather disappointing the Whitiora Bowling Club experienced a successful year, stated the report presented at the annual meeting. The committee arranged winter bowls from the close of the previous season, and, while this produced a considerable amount of revenue, the winter play had such a serious effect on the greens that it caused a number of rinks to be unplayable during last summer. It was decided, therefore, not to play during the present winter. The club competitions resulted as follows: Champion singles, W. F. Choat; handicap singles and Ingpen Cup, J. Morris; handicap pairs, J. Morris and J. A. Nelson; club fours, three's section, W. Braddock; lead's section, 3EI. Isaac. During the evening presentations were made to the wife of the retiring president, Mrs. Woodhall, for the assistance she had lent the club, and to the retiring secretary, Mr. D. Friday There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Bowling Club. The president; Mr. P. Pile, presided. The opinion that tournaments under the control of the South Auckland Bowling Centre should be conducted on the various greens in the centre's area rather than be confined to one or two particular greens was expressed by several members. It was pointed out that a club's own tourneys and competitions suffered if too many of the centre s fixtures were staged on its greens. TE AWAMUTU CLUB [from our own correspondent] TE AWAMUTU, Friday The statement of finances, presented at the 25th annual meeting of the- Te Awamutu Bowling Club, showed that the year ended with a small credit balance. After the report had neen adopted a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the president, Mr. Dowds, and Mrs. Dowds, for the efficient manner in which the club's affairs bad beeti carried out. A proposal to hold a two-day tournament in January, If<39, was adopted, and it was recommended that a centennial tournament be h'tld in January, 1940. It was decided to enter for the , Howden Shield and the Champion of Champions Singlet conducted by the South Auckland Centre.
