16 CHARGES OF THEFT

YOUNG MAN'S OFFENCES [BT TELEGBAFH —PBESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Friday " His offences were numerous and audacious," stated Chief-Detective Young when Francis Charles de Bazin, aged 24, appeared for sentence in the Police Court to-day on 16 charges of theft, which, together with a further count on which he had been sentenced to four months' imprisonment, involved property valued at £213. The chief-detective added that when the accused was sentenced these other charges were adjourned to allow arrangements to be made for the disposal of a crib which the accused had built with the proceeds of his theft. His term of imprisonment expired today. Only £49 of the stolen property was recovered and the crib had found no buyer. The magistrate admitted the accused to three years' probation, the restitution of £163 to be made.
