BURGLARS ACTIVE
MANAWATIJ DISTRICT RAIDS ON SIX PREMISES USE OF HIGH-POWERED CAR THEFT OF PETROL AND MONEY [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTE, Wednesday Using a high-powered motor-car burgJars raided three business premises in Feilding 011 Tuesday night. They stole about £2O in cash and damaged a comparatively new cash register, valued at £9O, which they- discarded in a drain on a near by country road. Shortly before midnight a constable found the door of the office of the Club Service Station open. With the town night watchman he woke the proprietor, Mr. L. 4 J. Jackson, and they found that the office had been broken into. Cash Register Taken The cash register was missing, but it was later found by two men lying in-a ditch on a country road. According to the registered transactions of the machine between £l2 and £l3 in cash had been taken, but several cheques were still in the drawer. While investigating this burglary the police were notified of two other burglaries, which h a d happened overnight. The premises involved were a wool and skins store and the office of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited. .In the first case the burglars took between £2 and £3 in cash, but the safe was not tampered with, while in the second instance a small amount of property was taken, but no cash removed. Motor-car Disguised
At Bunnythorpe the office of the Glaxo Manufacturing Company (N.Z.), Limited, was forced and papers and equipment strewn about the iloor. Tho safe was not touched and apparently nothing was taken. A petrol pump in the yard, however, was forced and a quantity of petrol removed. It is thought the burglars took the precaution of disguising their car by appropriating tho number-plates of a Feilding car. Burglars were also active in Palmerston North on the same evening. Two places were entered, but nothing of any great value was secured. At Woodham's Service Station a door was forced, but only Is was discovered. The garage of Nicholson and Skeates, in the same building, was also entered without result. three oars missing TWO FOUND ABANDONED [by telegraph OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH. Wednesday The loss of three motor-cars was reported to the Palmerston North police to-day. Two were subsequently recovered. The first car was taken from the roadside at Bainesse, and it was later found abandoned in Palmerston North. It is owned by Mr. A. H. Wall, of Kairanga. A bicycle lost from Levin was found where the car had been removed. The second car was owned by Mr. G. A. Gow, of Argyle Street, Palmerston North, and was taken from Featherston Street. It was discovered later in the day near Levin, from which town the loss of a third car was reported. ______
