AWAPUNI HORSES

BLUFFER IN GOOD TRIM QUADROON GOES FREELY LAPEL SCHOOLS PLEASINGLY [BY TEJ.KGKAPH—OWX C011HKS1?0N DENT] PALMERSTON NORTH, Saturday Working gallops were apportioned most of tho Awapuni horses engaged ut the Dannevirke and Marton meetings on a heavy track this morning after overnight rain. Lapel's brilliant schooling effort was a featuro of the morning's work. v Segra (Pine) ran the last two of three furlongs in 28s. Gay Molly ran an easy five. She is in fine order for next Saturday. Selkirk (Bowden), sharpened up after his recent races, slipped over three furlongs in 40s, the last two in 25 3-ss. He is in tho Maiden Race ut Dannevirko. Merry Thought (McDonald) and Cusinier (Kowhai) covered their halfmile in 55 2-ss, tho first two in 28s. Merry Thought was going easily at the finish. Bluffer (Bromley) was not bustled to hold Hasty Maid (Atkins) over three furlongs in 41s. Tho former has never been better. Titter (Pratt) was being urged to finish on terms with the improving Hunting Lore (Howe) over half a mile in 55 3-ss, tho first two in 28s. Hunting Lore is developing into a nice horse. Great Legion (Howo), aftor running tho first furlong in 13 l-ss, was steadied to complete five furlongs nicely in 1.9 2-5. Quadroon (Bowden) ran five furlongs under a good hold in 1.10 2-5, after taking 15 2-5s for the first furlong. Ho revelled in the going and pulled up well. Hitting out better than he did earlier in the week Tidewaitor (H. Thomson) was on terms with Noisy Night (It. Thomson) at the end of five furlongs in 1.10 2-5, the first throe in 41 3-ss. Both were going comfortably at the finish. Aurora's Lovo (Teniporton) was doing better than High Peer (Howe) at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.26. Sho has freshened up since she last raced and should bo in nico condition lor Trentham. Entheos (Howe) easily ran seven furlongs in 1.43, travelling smoothly all the way. Conveyer (McDonald), looking well after his short respite, worked over a round and jumped tho hurdle in the straight. Catalogue resumed work this morning after his holiday. He has built tip nicely. Clarion Call went well over a mile under a good hold and looks a much more solid horse than before he was taken to the Northern meeting. Ho should bo at his best for tho Grand National meeting in August.

Baldric (L. Parlies) jumped the pony hurdles a couple of times and then went over a round over the schooling hurdles. He shaped really well for a novice and showed improvement on his effort at the beginning of tho week. Lapel (Parkes) schooled over two rounds, jumping six hurdles in good style. Ho is a good cut of a hurdler and is likely to give a good account of himself when he makes his dobut at the Marton meeting, for, apart from being a fast and mature jumper, he goes well under winter conditions.
