EXPORTS OF BUTTER
MAY SHIPMENTS HIGHER DROP IN SEASON'S TOTAL DECREASE OF 2322 TONS Following a decrease in production for the 10 months of the dairying season ended May 31 of approximately 6 per cent, exports of butter for the same period also have shown a decline compared with last season. Figures supplied by the. New Zealand Dairy Board by arrangement with the Primary Products Marketing Department show that total exports for the period ended May 31, amounted to 1'27,572 tons, as against 129,891 tons in the previous season, a decline of 2322 tons. Shipments during May, however, amounted to 11,894 tons, an increase over the figures for the same month last year of 1482 tons. The quantity slipped to London during the 10 months of the export season declined by 4986 tons to 88,443 tons, while smaller quantities also were taken by Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Honolulu and the West Indies. Exports to other countries totalled 2536 tons, against 861 tons a year ago. Shipments of butter in the first five months of 1938 and 1937 compare as follows: — 11)38 3037 I'ons Tons_ January .. .. Stocks in London at tho same data wore estimated at 25,348 tons, as against 10.800 tons a year ago.
