GOLF CONTESTS

CLUB COMPETITIONS PLAY ON HEAVY FAIRWAYS CLOSE MATCHES FOR TROPHY Competitions were held by all local golf clubs on Saturday, Although the fairways were heavy, conditions generally good. The majority, of matches in tho sixth round of the Elliffe Cup at MaungaIciekio were evenly contested. Four games finished on the last green, while two went to tho 19th. Scoring was good in a bogey match which was played in conjunction, tho winners of the senior and junior grades being M. A. Pattison and D. M. Rao respectively. A medal foursome for the president's trophy was played at Middlemore, the winners being C. H. Archer and J. L. McCoy. During the week, R. A. Wilson entered the semi-final of the captain's prize tourney when he defeated J. F. Ewen. The Coltman Cup competition at .'AI irana was advanced a further stage and A. W. Wyness, H. G.- Lovell, H. Cullen and A. J. Martin retained their places. The Tyler Memorial Cup competition was continued and in a medal match played in conjunction, A. D. Barber led the seniors while L. D. Stewart was the successful junior. A Canadian foursome bogey match which was played at Titirangi, resulted in a win for A. Shorter and H. U. Thomson, who finished 6 up. G. Mellsop and R. Forder were the respective winners of Stableford bogey events played at Renmera and Orakei. The first round of the president's prize match at North Shore resulted in food scoring. From the limit handicap, >. A. Goldwater returned a 61 net, S. E. Foote being next with 68. Matches for the Ballin and Eccles Cups were played at Otahuhu and S. P. Midgley was the winner of a bogey which was' played in conjunction. With a net score of 66. 1. Howden led the qualifiers for the Pupuke Cup. The third round of the Ferry Cup was played at Waitemata and W. Crump won the concurrent medal handicap. PLAY AT MIDDLEMORE MEDAL FOURSOME The president's medal foursome competition was played at Middlemore on Saturday by members of tho Auckland Golf Club, the winners being C. H. Archer and J. L.
