MANUKAU CLUB TWO ROAD RACES DECIDED THOMAS WINS SENIOR CONTEST Two road races wero decided, by the Mnnukau Amateur Cycling Club on Saturday when ideal racing conditions prevailed. Twenty competitors started in the junior race of ten miles with G. C. Gillbanks off the limit mark of 10m, while J?. E. Clark, at his request, was brought back from lm to scratch, and rode throughout with N. F. Harvey. Gillbanks led for nine miles before he was passed, eventually to finish twelfth. Bishop sprinted in to win by a length from Woofe, while Hurley finished next, 21 s later. The placed juniors were as follows: —S. H. Bishop (3m 455). 30in lis, 1; E. J. Woofe (3m 455), 30in 12s, 2; D. P. Hurley (3m 15s), 30m 3s, 3; R. F. Flinkenberg (3m 15s), 30m 4s, 4. N. F. Harvey, scr, was fastest in 2Sm 275. Thirty-two competitors started in the senior event of 20 miles. E. A. Langridge, J. E. Pickncll, G. H. Cunningham. J. Brown and H. S. Triner rode from scratch. 11, Appleton rode alone from the limit of 7m 15s. F. Murphy and W. Gallagher led at half-way but the ultimate winner, Thomas, was only 2m behind with a group of nine riders. The leaders on entering tho last lap wero Thomas, Riddell, Smith, Clark, Warnock and Cochrane. Langridge was then 300 yards behind the leaders, but caught them on tho back hill stretch within a mile of the finish. Brown accompanied Langridge for five laps, when ho was delayed with a mechanical fault. Seven sprinted in grouped formation for Thomas to win by a clear length from Warnock and Smith. The successful seniors were as follows: V. D. Thomas (lm), 55m 18s, 1; A. R. Warnock (2iu los), 50m 31s, 2; W. H. Smith (2m 15s), 56m 355, 3; J. W. Clark (2m 15s), 5(Jm 3Gs, 4; E. A. Langridge (scr), 54m 225, 5; D. T. Riddell (lm 30s), 55m 535, 0. Langridge, scr, was fastest in 5-lm 225, V. D. Thomas being next. D. T. Riddell was third fastest. J. Brown clocked 50m 355. AUCKLAND CLUB SUCCESS OF ROBINSON The Auckland Cycle Club held a Junior race over 12% miles and a senior handicap over 25 miles at Panmure on Saturday afternoon. R. Manson, R. Blake, R. Robinson nnd J. Power started from the limit while D. Hills and F. Hunt were on scratch. F. Hunt easily outsprinted his co-marker, D. Hills, for fastest time. Results wero as follows:—R. Robinson (sm), 34m 545, I; It. Blako (sm), 34m 555, 2; J-. Power (sm). 35m 255, 3; N. Matthews (2m 455), 33m 575, 4. F. Hunt registered fastest time in 33m ss.
Tho senior event was over two laps of the Howick circuit. W. Caughoy anil A. Mi> Cowatt were on the limit, and C. Knight was the only scratch rider. Results were:— AV. Caughey (7m 455), 0!)ni 5!Js, 1; R. Chappell (2m 455), UOin 555, 2; C. Knight (scr), 05m 535, 3; R. Ahsolum (Tin 15s), 73m 7s. 4. C. Knight was fastest with a time of 05m 535. EVENTS AT LYNNDALE Following were the results of races held on Saturday by members of tho Lynndalo Amateur Cycling Club:— 18V 3 Miles Combined Event. —E. Dimmock (6m 455), 48m 555, 1; K. Child (7m 30s), 49m 41s, 2; G. Rogers (6m), 48m 12s. 3; G. Galley (2m 30s), 40m 2Ss, 4. Fastest times were registered by:—G. Galley (2m 30s), 46m 2Ss, 1; P. Lonergan (3m 15s), 47m 14s, 2; D. Margison (3m 15s), 47m 15s. 3. Ladies, 4V 3 Miles.—L. Arrol (scr), 15m 2Ss, 1; M. French (lm 30s), 10m 40s, 2. NORTHERN CLUB'S RACE The Northern Amateur Cycling Club conducted a 21 miles combined junior and senior road race on Saturday. The outstanding rider wa's M. Harland. a 15-year-old junior, who started from the 3m 15s mark. Riding nnpaced most of the distance he finished in third place and registered fastest time. Results were as follows:—J. Jeffries (Sm), Ih 2m, 255, 1; T. Hanfield (6m 15s). 11l Om 41s, 2; M. Harland (3m 15s), 57m 5Ss, 3; J. Macdermot (Om), Hi 2m 15s, 4. Fastest time was registered by M. Harland, 57m 58s. while T. C. Laloli, 5Sm 40s, was second fastest.
METROPOLITAN CLUB The Metropolitan Cycle Club held a 30mile open race on Saturday, the winner. W. "Willis, riding a gn.'Jit race to register fastest time in 111 2Gm 50s. Results were as follows:—W. Wright (4m), 73ni 30s, 1- L K. F.lia (3m). 72m 475, 2; D. J. H. Patten (lm), 70m <los. 3. Fastest time was registered by D. J. H. Patten. Junior Race, three laps, distance 12 miles. —R. Atkinson (2m 30s). Cameron (lm), 3iin 33 l-os, J. Hill (lm). 37m 33 2-ss, 3. Fastest time was registered by W. Marris. 37m Is. TE AWAMUTU CLUB The Te Awamutu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club held a road race on Saturday afternoon under ideal conditions and fast timrs were recorded by the riders. Results were as follows :-G. Allen (2m) 7Sn, 20s. j- J. J. Robertson (2m), 78m 255. 2; B. Irwin (Om), 84m, 3. Fastest time was registered by G. Allen (2m). 7Sm 20s. RACE HELD AT THAMES [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPOND ENT] THAMES. Sunday The Thames Cycle Club held a 10-miles race to Puriri and return, the result being:— F Wilton 1; M. J; Ij. Conic, .i. Fastest time was made by R. Jamieson, Win 21 1-SS.
