HARRIER RACING
■>'/- COMBINED CONTEST " PRESBYTERIAN AND WESLEY }•'•. 1 Members of the Presbyterian Harrier Club were the guests of the Wesley Club at tlje Itemuera Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon. Nearly 100 runners contested a race over & course of six miles, including Victoria Avenue and the Orakei and the Meadowbank districts.
On account of the large number present the runners were divided into six packs, and runs-in resulted as follows:—Racing pack: Neil, 1; Cbappell, 2; Swinton, 3. Fast pack: S. Moore, 1; Plummer, 2; Graham, 3. Intermediate pack: Nehroney, 1; L. Moore. 2; McLelland, 3. Slow pack: McManemin, 1; Whillans, 2; Hogarth and Holding (deadhcat), 3. Colts' pack: Rowe, 1; Riddell, 2; Mewa, 3. , Neil (Presbyterian) and Chappell (Wesley) showed to advantage in the racing pack, with Sharpies prominent in tho later stages. Of the fast pack Hislop and Odlin (Presbyterian) and C. Moore (Wesley) showed good form. Those prominent in the intermediate packs were Green and Crump (Wesley) and Jones and Hardcock (Presbyterians). The slow pack ran surprisingly well. CALLIOPE CLUB'S EVENT Tho Calliope Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club held a run on Saturday from its clubrooms at Lion Hall over the probable Auckland provincial junior championship course, a distance of approximately five miles. Three packs competed. No. 1, pack, under F. Hardman, ran well. No. 2 pack, under tho deputy-club captain, L. J. Lanigan, was first home, C. HHdcr and M. Steel showing out. Under the leadership of the club captain, N. R. Shorter, and the pace-maker, F. W. Savidan, the fast pack ran a fine race. H. Thompson and L.. S. Dixon were prominent, but did not reveal the high standard set by the leaders. The results of tho run-ins wero as follows:—Xo. I pack: F. Nicholson. 1; 1?. Bailey, 2; J. Power, .'5. No. 2 pack: R. Fazan, 1; L. J. Lanizan, 2; J. Ambler, 3. Fast Pack: F. W. Savidan, 1; N. Ambler, 2; H. Thompson, 3. RACE AT LYNNDALE Fifty members of the Lynndifle Harrier Club wero present at the Avondalo racecourse on Saturday for a track run. The slow pack ran over a four-mile course, while the three other packs ran six miles. The slow pack all ran well, H. White, W. Blackwell, G. Chant and A. Nunns showing promise. In the intermediate pack H. Callaher, T. Henderson, and R. Gillry were prominent. Members of the fast park all ran stronzly at the finish. R. Crompton and W. Briggs moved at a fast pace at tho finish at the racing pack.
ELLERSLIE CLUB'S RUN Members of the Ellcrslic Harrier Club held a run through Te Papapa on Saturday. Turning to'ttin left through Penrose to the Mount Wellington Highway, the course led to tho main Panmurc Road and back to Ellerslie. The distance was approximately six miles. A run-in was held over about, two miles, resulting in a win for S. Blake (2m), with M. K. Baker fscr) second and J. S. Nicholson (sc.r) third, F. Sharp, K. Nicholson, F. A. Stanley and M. C. Baker followed in that order. BAPTIST CLUB The going was exceedingly difficult and very sticky for the Baptist Club's event on Saturday afternoon. Tho run resulted as follows:—Slow pack: J. McCJregor, 1; S Brunning, 2; J. Chamberlain, 3. Intermediate pack: J. Macey, 1; P. Hammond, 2; F. Greenman, 3. Fast pack: H. Ferguson, 1; S. Edgar, 2; V. Connell, 3.
