TRADE NEGOTIATIONS

CONDITION OF STALEMATE UNITED STATES AND CANADA OTTAWA, Juno 17 The reluctance of the United States to open her markets to Canadian farm products has brought about a stalemate in the trade pact negotiations. Mexico is crowding out Canadian cattle in the United States markets. Canada is requesting preference in return for reduced duties on United States farm implements imported to Canada, while the same principle applies for other agricultural products. Washington is anxious to effect a pact with the United Kingdom, but London cannot make concessions unless Ottawa agrees to relinquish her preference, while tho latter will not do so unless Washington opens the door for farm products wider. The current; pact expires in December.
