TRAGEDY ENDS GAME

BOY FINDS LOADED RIFLE Playing with a companion, Phyllis Playfoot, aged 14, at East Lynno Poultry Farm, Brenchley, near Tonbridge, Kent, Leonard Finn, aged 12, found, a small-bore rifle in the kitchen.

When he picked up the weapon a bullet was discharged, which penetrated the girl's head at short range and killed her.

The children, whose home is at Sevenoaks, were visiting Mrs. E. J. Playfoot, the dead girl's grandmother. At the inquest Major Eric Clarke, the coroner, rebuked the owner of the rifle, Nathaniel Playfoot, for having left it loaded within reach of children. Playfoot said ho was sorry for his unintentional carelessness. The verdict was "Death by misadventure."
