OVERSEAS LEAGUE

VISIT BY LADY GALWAY A SOCIAL AFTERNOON MUSICAL PROGRAMME GIVEN Members of the Overseas League were honoured yesterday afternoon by a visit from Her Excellency Lady Galway, who attended a social held by the club. The rooms had been attractively decorated in the club colours of red and white, with poinsettias and salvia in the former shade and roses and jonquils in the latter.

On arrival Her Excellency was received by Mrs. Eliot 11. Davis, who presided, and the following members of the reception committee: —Mrs. J. M. Melville, Mrs. Elon Bond, Mrs. M. Smart, Mrs. E. L. Burton, Mrs. W. 11. Golden, Miss C. L. Sutton, Miss E. Emerson, Miss N. Montgomery, Miss E. H. Willoughby and Miss S. C. File.

liady Galway was wearing a coatfrock of biscuit-coloured wool crepe de chine, w[th a matching fur cape and a biscuit-coloured and brown stitched silk hat. Mrs. Eliot Davis whs in a black pleaded frock relieved with touches of white, a black ponyskin jacket and a . black yelotir hat with an upturned brim. A bouquet of red and yellow flowers was presented to Lady Galway and a charming shoulder spray to Mrs. "Davis. Welcome to Her Excellency In welcoming Her Excellency on her first, visit to the Overesas League Mrs. Davis said that the league stood for the propagation of goodwill and understanding among all English-speaking countries, and gatherings such as the present one were in keeping with the objects of the league. Lady Galway s visit was greatly appreciated by the members and would do much, she said, to encourage members to continue their work toward the advancement of the club. In reply Lady Galway expressed her delight- at the opportunity of meeting the league members. She said she had seen the work of the league in England and considered that there was no better agency than the. Overseas League for cementing the bonds between England apd New Zealand. An enjoyable musical .programme was presented by Mrs. N. V. Le Petit and Miss Sybil Phillipps, . who sang, and an instrumental trio, /comprising Mrs. P. BloV, Miss Margery Dunn and Miss Leila Bloy. The accompanist was Mrs. W. Beniams. The Members Present
