UNSETTLED AND RAINY QOL.DER TEMPERATURES The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows: —An, anti-cyclone is centred to the north of New Zealand, whilo a depression is advancing on to the South Island. Pressure has risen considerably over Eastern Australia. The forecast is for moderate north-westerly to northerly winds prevailing and becoming strong at times about and south of Cook Strait. A change to southerly, however, setting in shortly in the far south, and becoming general by to-morrow evening. Seas moderate to rather rough, and increasing on ,tho .West Coast. Elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising in Cook nnd Foveaux Straits, and later on the east coast of tho South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds, backing shortly to southerlies, and reaching gale force in tho southern portion. Seas becoming very rough. The weather is likely to bo unsettled and rain is probable in western districts from Taranaki southward. with some heavy falls and snow on the ranges in Westland and in the far south. Elsewhere fair at first, but scattered rain later becoming fairly general. Temperatures soon becoming colder.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST INTERMITTENT RAIN ' Tho Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, backing to-morrow to south-westerly. The weather is likely to become unsettled and changeable, with scattered intermittent rain. Temperatures becoming colder. Seas moderate, but rising on the West. Coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —The day was showery with a fresh to moderate wind from the north-west. The maximum temperature was 62 degrees and the minimum 53 degrees. lieht north-easterly breeze, however, changed to a fresh easterly in the afternoon, and about 7 p.m. steady rain began. The maximum temperature was 52.8 degrees after a morning frost of 10.6 degrees. The baiometer at 5 p.m. registered 29.653 in. and was falling slowly.
