TEST CRICKET
FORTHCOMING MATCHES OPINION OF A. E. R. GILLIGAN v ' / """"" 7 ■ The former England test captain, A. E. R. Gilligan, considers that the orlds are 6 to 4 on Australia for the coming tests. In a letter written by him just as the Australians were beginning thei^ tour, hesajd:— "You will be glad to hear that Don Bradman is not only the finest bat .in the world, but one of the most polished speakers we have ever had over here. His speech at the British Sportsman's Club was magnificent. He and the boys are assured of a, real happy time, and the British public has taken to them at once. is a real friendly spirit, and this is as it should be. Anyway, Don has already done everything he can to attain this end, and cricket should be ever grateful to him. Ho is most modest in * his outlook for the tests, but I reckon it is 6 to 4 on Australia on account of their remarkably happy team spirit." This letter was written before th« Australians had struck the trouble they have had in regard to their bowling. •
