THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE r- TONE REMAINS STEADY * Business opened quietly in the investment market on the Auckland Stock *■ Exchango yesterday after the King's * Birthday holiday. Trading was light, but evidence of tho improved sentiment noticed toward tho closo of last week was. not lacking. Few marked alterations in price were made, but tho genie, eral tono'of tho market was steady. f , Gilt-edged continued to meet with a good inquiry, but a feature of tho day's - business was tho stronger inquiry for banks. New Zealands changed hands, ~ at an advance and more were wanted at tho samo prico later. Offers for practically every other issue also moved up. Insurances were dull and littlo alterar; tion was shown in the other classified - sections, Metals tended easier with Electrolytic (Zincs (preference) marked 'down sharply on tho previous sale a t. littlo over a week ago. Wilsons Cement also were easier on sale. Offers for Henry Jones followed the former trend in Sydney and moved up x.., 9d on tho day. Woolworths (Sydney) % also,, were firmer and thero was a K' stronger demand for rights to tho >£ preference issue bf Woolworths Proper- *"• ties. Woolworths Holdings (South £;'* Africa), on tho other hand, woro slightly easier. £ A marked advance was shown in Taranaki Oils with buyers closing at 9s 4d and holders 4d higher.
