SAFETY ON HIGHWAY
TE AWAMUTU INTERSECTION PROPOSED TRAFFIC FILTER The opinion that an "island" traffic filter at the intersection of the Great South Road and the Pirongia highway, in the borough of Te Awamutu, would operate as a safety measure and would facilitate control of traffic at this point was expressed on behalf of the Automobile Association {Auckland) by a special delegation which visited Te Awamutu yesterday. The delegation comprised Mr. H. J. Butcher, chairman of the service committee, Dr. J. Howard Lawry, Mr. P. A. Low and the touring manager of the association. Mr. Butcher said that the council of the association had approved the proposal to erect this form of traffic control at Te Awamutu and representations were being made to the Main Highways Board and the borough council recommending that an immediate start be made on the construction work.
The Automobile Association representatives offered to provide signs and luminous directions for the guidance of traffic, and also stated that the association would be glad to prcbmlt suggestions for the safeguard tȣ pedestrians when the preliminary- road Work had been completed.
