FURS POPULAR

-ELLEESLIE FASHIONS I many capes and coats VARI-COLOURED TWEEDS The winter meeting of the Auckland Racing Club is always a popular fixture, and yesterday there was a very large attendance of people, many of whom had come from all parts of the Dominion. The weather, although slightly chilly, was really delightful. Tailored coats and skirts, with the addition of warm overcoats or furs, were worn by a large majority of women, and with the bright note given by vivid scarves and jaunty hats, looked extremely smart and sportsmanlike. Coats were in many colours and styles, some loose and full at the back, others trimly tailored. The tweeds were most attractive, being in all kinds of weaves and patterns, while the colours showed the extraordinary range produced by manufacturers this season. Black was rarely seen, and was replaced by the cheerful warmth of red, pink, mulberry, vintage, blue, green and yellow, and all its associated golden tones. Beauty o! Furs Fox furs, with silver fox as a favourite, were almost universally worn. In preference to the full length coats of fur which have been so popular for the last few winters, capes made their appearance,, featuring in many cases the square shoulder line. Fur was also much used in trimming collars, sleeves, and in some cases the hem of coats. Women have become decidedly furconscious and realise that to-day there is a new suppleness and a new loviiness about furs. There were even one or two swagger coats in fur with tho swing backline, which does many kind things to a woman's figure, be it plump or slender, by its clever cut. Persian lamb, Indian moire lamb and American broadtail were also used for, trimming and looked extremely smart when used on smooth black coats. Suits were simple, although extremely well cut, but the hats were more fafttastic than ever. They, varied from the tall crowned fez and Hat berets trimmed with huge bows or lacquered quills, to tailored sports felts ; velvet toques, sailor hats of every possible type, and tweed hats that matched the' suits worn by their owners. Among the accessories worn by many women were either buttonholes or sprays. of fresh flowers, and gay little posies of artificial flowers, which accentuated the bright note given by scarf or hat., Seen in the Stands Among those present were:—Mrs. H.
