AUCKLANDEKS ABROAD PARADE AND SPORTS EVENTS LARGE CROWDS AT FIXTURES Brilliantly fine weather, with a light southerly breeze, contributed substantially to the success of various fixtures held in Auckland yesterday, a holiday in honour of the birthday of King George VI. The exceptionally clear day lent additional colour to the usual military parade hold at the Domain, and attracted out of doors a great crowd of people. In addition to the military parade, a Royal Salute was fired at the Naval Base at Dcvonport, and warships in port, the Admiralty survey ship Endeavour, and merchant vessels wero dressed in honour of His Majesty's Birthday. There was a bravo display of bunting, not only on the waterfront, but on a number of public buildings, and many residents in the suburbs had flags hoisted. Vast crowds patronised the various sporting fixtures. The opening of the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting at Ellerslie was attended by an extremely large number of people, and football and hockey matches were also popular. Enthusiastic golfers took advantage of the holiday to enjoy a long day on the links, and motorists were also abroad early and in large numbers. In addition of motorists on their way to the parade, the races or to sporting fixtures, there were many parties bound for the country for the day, the main routes both north and the city carrying heavy traffic. A few hardy yachtsmen were on the harbour, and the sailing dinghy winter season was inaugurated. Model yacht enthusiasts assembled for their annual regatta in St. Mary's Bay. Although out-of-door fixtures attracted the majority of the people, picture theatres were crowded yesterday. There were long queues at several city theatres early in the afternoon, and again early last night, A number of military reunions took place last night. Giving an opportunitv to spend a long week-end at Rotorua, two excursion trains were riui from Auckland. One train left late on Friday night and the second on Saturday afternoon, both being well patronised. The trains returned late last night, one being attached to the ordinary train from Rotorua. HAMILTON ATTRACTIONS MANY PEOPLE ATTEND [FROM" OUR OWN correspondent] Hamilton, Monday Large crowds filled the streets of Hamilton to-day. Special trains brought full complements of passengers. Parking stands for motor-cars were at a premium in all the principal streets The weather was fine throughout the day. The representative Rugby football match between Auckland and Hamilton was attended by one of the largest crowds ever seen at Rugb.v Park. There was a large attendance at St. Andrews golf links, where the annual Waikato Show Cup tournament was played Large numbers of people assembled at Steel, Seddon and Boyes Parks, where Association football and men's and ladies' hockey tournaments were held.

Traffic inspectors had' a strenuous day controlling tho traffic iu the streets.
