MAINLY FAIR TO FINE WIDESPREAD RAIN LATER The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows:—A (shallow depression is crossing the Dominion to-dav, and a secondary is following it across the South Tasman Sea. An anti-cyclone covers Australia, but a cyclonic depression appears to be developing over the north-west of the Tasman Sea. The forecast is for northerly winds predominating at first north of Hokitika and Banks' Peninsula, but west to south from there southwards, and gradually extending over most of the Dominion; mainly light t<3 moderate but freshening. Seas rather rough to rough in Foveatix Strait, and rising at times in the Cook Strait area. Otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate but freshening south to south-eajst winds in the northern portion and west to sonth in the southern portion; seas moderate, but rising. The weather is likely to be mainly fair to fine in the northern half of the North j Island. Elsewhere cloudy to overcast and scattered rains developing. More widespread rain, and colder temperatures are probable before Monday. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate but freshening easterly to northerly winds. The weather is likely to be fine at first ' but later clouding over and unsettled conditions probably by Sunday. Seas ; slight to moderate but later rising on > the East Coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Following fog in the early morning, yesterday was clear and fine' with very little wind, the tendency .being from the south.
