WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION AT AKARANA EVENT DURING WEEK-END ARRANGEMENT OF THE DRAW The annual Auckland winter golf championship and handicap tournament will be staged on the Akarana links at Mount Roskill during the coming weekend. A particularly strong and representative entry has been received, the field including the five local scratch players, W. J. Davidge, H. 1). Brinsden and J. H. Young, of Titirangi, P. G. F. Smith, Akarana, and B. G. Thomson, Auckland. More than 50 of the competitors are handicapped on single figures and entries have been received from Miramar, Te Awamutu, Wairoa, WeUsford and Rotorua. A qualifying test of 18 holes medal play will be decided next Saturday, the best 16 gross to comprise the championsnip event, while the next 16 gross will contest the Akarana Cup by handicap match play. 'J he competitor returning the best gross score will be the winner of the wintei scratch medal. The remaining players will be divided into groups of eight for handicap match play. WINTER SHOW TOURNEY [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday The annual Winter Show golf tournament will be held under the auspices of the Hamilton Golf Club at St. Andrews links on Monday. Over 80 entries from all parts of the province have been received. The competition will be stroke play on handicap over 36 holes, and a trophy donated by tho Waikato Winter Show Association will bo presented to tho winner.
