DRAINAGE RATES

CHRISTCHURCH INCREASE [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday An increase of £18,592 on tho rates levied last year by the Christchurch Drainage Board was shown in tho estimates approved by the board last night for the current financial year. This year the board will strike rates to bring in £132,608 —an increase of more than 16 per cent on last year's levy. The increase in the old drainage area is slightly more than 33 per cent, whilo in-the new area the increase is a little more than 10 per cent. The higher rates will affect four districts —the old drainage area, rural Christchurch, rural Spreydon, and tho ucw drainage area.
