ECZEMA IN STOCK
PROBLEMS OF CONTROL PUKEKOHE FARMERS' MEETING [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Tuesday The grazing of stock on deep-rooted pastures and particular attention to the blood condition of the animals were stated to be important factors in the control of facial eczema, at a meeting of farmers at Pukekohe to-day. About 100 farmers attended the meeting, which was convened by the Franklin branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union to discuss tho causes and cures of the disease. A demonstration was given on a cow badly affected by eczema. A post-mor-tem examination of tho cow was carried out, and the effects of the disease on the liver and other organs were noted. Farmers stated that it should bo possible for many animals affected with eczema to be restored to a condition which would not impair their production, but doubt was expressed as to whether many ewes affected by tho disease would lamb next season. It was stated that, on many farms, up to 95 per cent of tho ewes were empty, although it was possible that this condition was not altogether duo to facial eczema.
