MANUREWA AFFAIRS
WATER FOR TAKANINI STOCK ROUTE CONFERENCE The possibility of the ratepayers in the Takanini district seeking to have their district made a special rating area for the purposes of water supply was mentioned at the Manurewa Borough Council meeting on Monday night. Takanini is in the Manukau County. The Mayor, Mr. W. J. Ferguson, said he was advised by residents that there was a move being made in that directiou. The residences at Takanini were meantime being served with water from the Manurewa pipe-line. In the event of the project being carried out it would mean that water would be purchased in bulk instead of being sold by individual meter as at present. The council had been asked to supply information as to costs of reticulation and kindred matters. It was decided to authorise the Mayor and engineer to confer with the ratepayers if necessary. The clerk reported that all the local bodies between Otalmhu and Franklin County had consented to send delegates to a conference to discuss alternative stock routes to relieve the main highway. It was decided to convene the conference for June 23 at Manurewa.
