95 YEARS OLD

RESIDENT OF KARACHI Probably the oldest European in India is Mr. J. G. Laing, of Karachi, who has celebrated his 95th birthday. Mr. Laing was born in Aberdeen in 18-13, the year in which Sir Charles Napier annexed tho Province of Sind for Britain. He enlisted in the 3rd Battery, Royal Field. Artillery in 1861 and went out to India in 1864. He speaks frequently of Lord Roberts of Kandahar, under whoso command lie served for some time. This old soldier of the pre-Ivipiing era has lived for the last 18 years in Karachi. In spite of his great age, Mr. Laing is an active man, and regularly walks around the Frere Town area three time? every day.
