MATCH STOPPED
TOWN HALL WRESTLING INTERVENTION BY POLICE BLOMFIELD BEATS KENNEDY A professional wrestling match at the Town Hall oil Saturday night between Lofty Blomfield, of Auckland, and Jack Kennedy, of America, was stopped ill the final round by Inspector D. Scott, of the Auckland police. This round commenced with exchanges of forearm jolts and flying tackles. Kennedy was then warned by the referee for punching and again for kicking his opponent in the abdomen. In spite of these warnings the visitor lifted his knee into Blomfiehl's face and it was then that the inspector rose from his seat at the ringside, went up to the ropes, and demanded the referee to stop the contest. Prior to this incident Blomfield had gained a fall immediately after the match started. He sent his opponent down with three forearm jolts and then pounced upon him for a body press. This method of obtaining a fall met with a mixed reception from the crowd., Blomfield's supporters cheered wildly as he returned to his corner and sat down. He rose and bowed to those who were jeering him. Warnings for Kennedy
This was Kennedy's first appearance in Auckland. He did not display the variety of holds most of the other overseas wrestlers have done, but he put plenty of vigour into those he did apply. For instance, he was able to hold the New Zealander in a shortarm scissors and roll him round the ring for the greater part of the second round. Another hold the newcomer indulged in freely was the flying winglock.
Kenned}* showed sound defence and lie escaped cleverly from an Indian deathlock in the fourth round. Both men used elbow jolts and flying tackles as one of their main methods of attack. Kennedy was twice warned in the seventh round, the first time for kidney punching and on the second occasion for punching his opponent in the abdomen. Blomfield weighed 16st. 81b. and Kennedy 16st. 41b. Mr. J. McLean was referee. The Preliminaries A professional preliminary bout between K. Kenneth, 14st. tilb., and F Irving, 13st. Sib., resulted in a draw, no falls being registered. This contest pleased the crowd as the pair gave a lively and entertaining exhibition. They displayed a good knowledge of the various holds known in the sport. Irving was unable to obtain results with Indian deathlocks. Mr. J. McLean was referee. The amateur preliminaries resulted as follows: G. Houlson, lOst. 21b., beat P. Buchanan, 9st. 101b., by two falls. R. Jones, 9st. IQIb., beat F. Ford, lOst, 41b., by one fall. C. Harper, 9st. 121b., beat G. Moore, Bst. 91b., by one fall. Mr. J. F. Brown was referee and Messrs. G. Heald and C. 0. Brown were the judges.
