WOOL FOR EMERGENCY

BRITISH INVESTIGATION CENSUS TO BE TAKEN LONDON, May 18 With a view to making the wool industry a national service in an emergency, the Government has decided to take a census of all raw wool, wool tops and machinery in the woollen and worsted industries in Britain. The decision follows the leaders of the industry, in response to a Board of Trade inquiry, intimating that they were not able to say whether the existing machinery and stocks of wool and of tops would be adequate to meet Government and civil needs in the event of an emergency. The census forms will be sent out on May 28. It is stated that there is no reason to believe that the Government is contemplating wool purchases.
