GUARANTEED PRICES
FARMERS' ATTITUDE
CHANGES IN SYSTEM URGED TRIBUNAL TO FIX RATE V Changes in the system of determining the guaranteed price for batter-:|£. and cheese were recommended in; series of remits unanimously carried at the annual conference of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union yesterday. No discussion took place on the resolutions, which were framed by a committee appointed by the conference. ». .
During the operation of the guaranteed price scheme, it was considered that the price for each season should be determined by a tribunal consist* ing of equal numbers assessors ap» pointed by the dairy industry and the Government, presided over by a-Judga of the Supreme Court. This principle, it was recommended, should be brought into effect when the price for the next dairy season was assessed. A retro* spective payment, assessed by / the tribunal, for increased cost imposed during the 1937-38 season was also re* commended.
To assist in presenting the indns* try's case before the proposed tribunal, the Dominion conference of the uilioa was urged to set up a small committee of qualified persons to co-operate with the other organisations representing the dairy industry in the collection and collation of evidence.
