JUVENILE CHOIR
FIRST CONCERT OF SEASON INTERESTING PROGRAMME The Auckland Juvenile Choir, which is now in its Second season, gave its first concert foY 1938 before a large audience last night in the Lewis Eady hall, The choir, the founder and conductor of which is Miss Ida Holmes, comprises about 35 children of between eight and 15 years of age, and their performance showed the results of careful training. The children showed an appreciation of what they were singing and their voices blended well in the unison and two-part songs which formed their part of the programme. The choir sang six pieoes, including German's "Love is Meant to Make Us Glad," "Maydew"by Sterndale Bennett, "Cradle Song" bv Brahms, and an arrangement of Beethoven'B Minuet, with words by Mrs. Theodora Bennett, of Auckland. Several of the Kieces wore arranged for the choir by [iss Holmes. Solos were given by Joan Ratcliffe and Ron Jones and a trio, "Snowdrops," by Miss Holmes, was sung by G. Morris, B. Oliver and E. Cadness; .Mendelssohn's "May. Song" was presented as a duet by Bettina Oliver and Marguerite Cadness,
Assisting artists were Miss Aileen Warren, pianist, and Miss Isobel Langlands, violinist, the former's main number beinj; Benjamin Godard's "Barcarolle Venetienne." Miss Langlands played three numbers by Chemiavsky.
