THE LEAGUE CODE

TOTAL MATCH PLAYED / AUCKLAND'S EASY VICTORY NORTH ISLAND TEAM BEATEN The Rugby League, football trial game played at Carlaw Park yesterday afternoon between Auckland and the Rest of the North Island was disappointing as Auckland outclassed the visitors and won easily by 67 points to 14. At no stage of the game did tha North Island players impress, and few, if any, have a chance of being selected on that form. Surprise was expressed when a change was not made at half-time. Auckland was definitely superior, and it would have been a better trial to have changed at least six players on either side so as to make their strength more equal. Ab it was the Auckland team played unchanged, and scored tries almost at leisure. Six reserves were selected and only the visitors tried out two after half-time.

Among the North Inland forwards, Taylor (Whangarei) and Cootes, (Wellington), were the pick, especially the former, who would have done much better. in good company. McOarrey (Sonth Auckland), wing threequarter, was the only back to Impress. All the home backs played well, particularly Brimble (Newton), halfback, and. Brimble (Manukau), five-eighths. Their combination was a feature of the game, although the opposition was weak. Both the wings, Riley and McNeil, played splendid games. Tittlcton showed some of his best form at second five-eighths, and made some clever openings. R. Chase played an impressive game at centre, but the test, however, was not severe. Little fault could be found with Smith at fullback, who fielded well and kicked with good judgment. Among the forwards Herring proved a splendid opportunist, while he did his work well in the scrums. Brodrick was the best forward on the ground and perhaps the fastest player. Gault, in the front row, also played a splendid game and excelled with good handling. Tetley was not so prominent as was expected. 3 . , T .. Tries for Auckland were scored by McNeil (3), Brodrick (3), Chasa (2), Gault, Batherley Tetley, Tittleton. W. Brimble, Herring and Anderson- Smith converted Beren tries and Anderson four. Taylor scored two tacs for North Island and Mustchin aM Rogers one each. Taylor also kicked a penalty goalMr. M. WetheriH was referee.

THE AUCKLAND LEAGUE SENIOR PLAYERS CAUTIONED COACH'S PLAYING SERVICES In regard to the application of Auckland for a match against the New Zealand team, on its return from Australia, the Auckland Rugby League received advice laßt evening from the parent body that further considera- '■ tion would be givwi the matter before the New Zealand team left for Australia. Mr. R. Doble said that Mr. E. K. Asher, secretary of the Maori Board of Control, had made formal application for a match against a New Zealand Maori team, but he did not consider this possible as the touring team would probably include a number of the best Maori players. •

Mr. G. Grey Campbell, chairman, said that, in the event of the • New Zealand League arranging the game with the Maoris, it was intended that Auckland play Canterbury at Carlaw Park on the return of the touring team.

Two senior grade players, A. Broadhead, Richmond, and P. Ririnui, Manukau, appeared to answer charges of alleged fighting in a game at Carlaw Park last Saturday. Both were severely cautioned arid, in the case of Broadhead, he was further warned that a similar offence will be viewed more seriously. Mr. Campbell reported that the playercoach, J. R. Banham, would be retained with the North Shore club, for a further three Saturdays, after which he. would play for and coach the City senior team. R. F. Ball, a playing member of the Eastern Suburbs Club, Sydney, was registered as a member of the Mount Albert club. B. Miles was regraded from Pon6onby seniors to the third grade. The following transfers were approved:— IG. Greenwood, Mount Albert to Richmond; 8. Bickerton, Mount Albert to Newton.
