VIOLINIST'S ROMANCE
YEHUDI MENUHIN ENGAGED TO WED AUSTRALIAN GIRL MUTUAL INTEREST IN MUSIC Widespread interest has been taken in the announcement of tho engagement of Miss Nola Nicholas, daughter of Mr. George Nicholas and tho late Mrs. Nicholas, of Melbourne, to the famous violinist Yehudi Menuhin, which was announced from London recently, states an Australian writer. Miss Nicholas, who is just 20 years of ago, will share a lovo of music with her fiance. Educated at the Methodist Ladies' College in Hawthorn, she took both piano and violin for her musical studies. Both she and her elder sister Betty, who married Dr. Edmund Alcock in 193G and has since made her home in London, arc very attractive girls, and were always mentioned in the audiences at Menuliin's concerts in Melbourne, although they met the violinist for the first time personally in London last year. Miss Nicholas has been staying with her sister and brother-in-law in London since the beginning of last year. She was presented at Court during tho Coronation season. During tho year she also visited the United States, and has enjoyed winter sports in Europe. In addition to her other accomplishments, Miss Nicholas took the domestic science course at the Methodist Ladies' College. It is expected that Menuhin and his wife will visit Australia in 1940, when the violinist has been engaged by J. and N. Tait for another tour of Australia. In 1935, when Yehudi Menuhin visited Australia to give a series of concerts, he was accompanied by tho members of his family, and his parents limited tho social engagements made during that visit so that they should not interfere with their son's privacy. It is unlikely, however, that, with so many Melbourne friends anxious to honour him and his wife, the same circumstances will obtain. Both Miss Nola Nicholas and her sister, Mrs. Alcock, wero very popular members of Melbourne's younger social set, and their lovely home on Mount Macedon was always a pleasant meeting place for their friends.
