NURSE FAREWELLED
TRIBUTES TO WORK FUNCTIONS AT TOKAANU Residents in the Tokaanu district met in the Waihi Hall last week to farewell the departing district health nurse, Miss D. E. Petersen, who is leaving for tho United States on a six months' Dancing was enjoyed and vocal items were given by Messrs. J. Hoka, G. Rehia and Miss Wana Moana. Farewell songs and a haka were given by the Waihi Maoris. Supper was in the charge of Mrs. J. Asher and tho Waihi Maori Ladies' Committee. Presentations were made by Messrs. Hoani To Heu Heu, chairman of the Tuwharetoa Board, on behalf of Maoris and pakehas, and Mr. Frank Gallagher made a presentation on behalf of public works employees. Speeches were made by Chief Te Heu Heu, Messrs. R. Patterson, J. Cullen and A. Grace. A farewell dinner was also given for Miss Petersen and her friends by Mr. and Mrs. Hurley at the Tokaanu Hotel. Speeches were made and toasts proposed by the Rev. Father van Beck and others. Nurse Petersen replied, thanking her friends for their kindness durins her stay of 3J years in Tokaanu, and expressing the hope that she had been able to do something for tho Maoris while in the district. Those present were: —Mesdames Edkins, Durward, Kay, Dempsey, Tisseman, Asher, McNamara, Patterson, Wilson, Nurse Bradford, of Taupo, and Nurse Gill, who will succeed Nurse Petersen at Tokaanu.
