BOXING RING

ARRIVAL OF FILIPINO CONTEST ON MONDAY NEXT Another overseaso boxer arrived in Auckland bv the Aorangi on Monday, Dommy Ganzon, the Filipino featherweight who has performed with much success in Australia. He defeated Joe Hall on points. Young Roberts by a knock-out in three rounds, and Mike O'Connor, feather-weight champion of Victoria, on points. Ganzon brilliantly out-fought Joe Hall directly after Hall had gained a victory over the champion, Mickey Miller. Simultaneous with the arrival of Ganzon comes the news that Hall sensationally outpointed Young Gildo at the Brisbane Stadium on Saturday night last, so it would appear—especially to those who know the calibre of Hall and Gildo —that Ganzon is a class performer. Snowy (Al) Clark, who was-brought to New Zealand by the Auckland Boxing Association, will meet Clarrie Hayner, of Blenheim, in his first Dominion contest at the Town Hall on Monday night next: Clark has revealed amazing speed in the gymnasium and is fit and well for his initial bout. Hayner needs little introduction. He has always given the public good value for its money and is in great demand by all associations this season. This meeting appears to bo the makings of one of the best, fights seen for a long period at the Auckland Town Hall. The team of Auckland boxers which went to Dargaville to assist in the very successful amateur tourney held by the Northern Wairoa Military Amateur Boxing Association last week, spoke very highly of the hospitality of the northerners. It is anticipated that a team of Dargaville amateurs will make a reciprocal trip in the near future. The Otago Boxing Association has followed the lead set by Auckland in that it is its intention to promote regular fortnightly contents. On Mondav night last Stan .Jenkin, of Oamaru, met Clarrie Marshall, of Gisborne, under the. auspices of that association, and .Tonkin secured a victory on points. The southern association intends matching Jon kin with Tiger Parks. Neville Mudgway, present holder of the New Zealand welter-weight title, who had to forgo two contests on account of the sudden death of his wife is likely to be matched within the next few weeks.
