HORSE ILL-TREATED
CONVICTION OF CHINESE FINE OF £7/10/- IMPOSED A charge of ill-treating a horse by working it while it was suffering from sores was brought against a Chinese market gardener, Dak Gin, of Mount Wellington, in the Otahuhu Magistrate's Court. Defendant, through an interpreter, pleaded guilty. An inspector of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals, N. Webster, said he found defendant using the horse while it had large sores on either side of tho neck under the collar, which was in a dirty state. Witness considered it a bad case. On behalf of defendant it was stated that ho did not realise the serious nature of tho offence. When his attention was drawn to it he put the horse out to rest.
A fine of £7 10s and 12s costs was imposed. Defendant was given one month to pay.
