MODEL ENGINEERING
NOTABLE EXHIBITION An interesting exhibition of model engineering under the auspices of the New Zealand Society of Model and Experimental Engineering was opened yesterday in the Town Hall concert chamber. The display will be on view all this week. Many of the models were made by Auckland engineering enthusiasts, and the work involved in their construction must be seen to bo appreciated. Perhaps the most interesting of the exhibits were tho ships.; A 7ft.- miniature of H.M.S. Hood attracted attention, both because of the minute details involved and the fact that it is an electrically-driven working model. One display was devoted entirely -to British warships, from the mighty Hood down to tho tiny patrol boats. A fine model of tho Auckland tug, William C. Daldy, was seen beside the beautiful old tea-clipper Cutty Sark. with h<?r trim, stately lines. A cleverly-executed working miniature of the modern "K" engines, now on the main railways in New Zealand, was displayed beside engines of former days. An amusing contrast was a model made according to Heath Bobinson's version of a railway engine with a cow lying placidly on the "cowcatcher." There were numerous models of all types of engines, from a Cornish mine pump, built in 1846, to a powerful modern tractor capable of pulling several men. •James Watt, ono of the pioneers of the pteam engine, was not forgotten, as a miniature of the first engine to rotate was displayed. The model railway provided a treat for the children, an 4' was well patronised throughout the
