Soinple, would probably not consent to the expenditure of £90.000 for the construction of a new main biglnvav from Hamilton to Kawhia while the backblock people of the Raglan County were still "in the mud/' was expressed at a meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce last night. « The secretary, Mr. R. V. Challincr. said the possibility of completing the road through the Moerangi block, which would mean about only eight miles of new construction work, had been discussed by him with Mr. Hall-Jones, district engineer of the Public Works Department. The engineer was of the opinion that the work would cost at least £90,000, and ho considered it unlikely that the Minister would agree to such expenditure. A letter from. the Kawhia Town Board expressed the desire of the people of that town that the road through the Moerangi block should be completed. A committee was set up to gain further information on the Question.
