Metro-Goldwyn-Maver's British plans include a P. G. Wodeliouse comedy for Robert Montgomery and "National Velvet," with the part of Mi Taylor built up for Spencer Tracy.
Gladys George has delivered an ultimatum. Unless assigned a picture soon, she will come to London to do "Personal Appearance." the play which brought her into pictures, on the stage.
William Powell and Carole Lomhard are to be co-starred again in farce. The title is "American Beauty," and will be produced by David Selznick. Powell is taking eight weeks' holiday in South America first.
Bette Davis will be Carlotta in Warners' "The Phantom Crown" (new title for "Maximilian and Carlotta"). William Dieterle directs. Only waiting for Paul Muni's return and acceptance or refusal of his part.
Sonja Henie is reported to have asked £SOO for each of six appearances at Madison Square Garden. The manager thought it too high and offered her 40 per cent of the profits. She accepted and her share, £B6OO, turned out to bo nearly three times more than she had asked
