AFLOAT AND ASHORE
DEEP-SEA SAILOR Those who enjoy talcs of the sea will welcome the chance now afforded them of obtaining in book form, stories, by Shalimar. Under the title, "The Peaceful Wanderer," are to be found a varied collection by this popular author, among whose chief recommendations are the facts that he knows his subject very thoroughly, and that he also possesses the gift of narrative to a marked degree. Himself a seafaring man who started in square-rigged sailing-ships, Shalimar also saw service with the Indian Army in the Great War and was twice decorated for gallantry in the iield. Some of his war experiences are obviously introduced into "The Peaceful Wanderer," but one of the most outstanding of the collection is that in which is given a description of a storm scene in Valparaiso when a huge fleet of shipping in the port is overtaken by a Norther with considerable loss of lifo and tonnage. The reader is taken right round the world with stops at many ports. Humour, tragedy, excitement and pathos arc cleverly blended in this excellent series. "Tlic Peaceful "Wanderer," by Shalimar.
