SILENT THIEVES
FURS AND JEWELLERY TOTAL VALUE OVER £2OOO RAIDERS* MYSTERY METHODS
One of the most puzzling London burglaries of recent years, is being investigated by Scotland Yard detectives. " Furs and jewellery valued at over £2OOO were stolen from a house in Avenue -Road, Regent's Park, without any sign being apparent of the way in which the thieves entered or left the premises.
Among the articles taken were: A mink coat worth £I6OO, and an engagement ring, a pendant, and bracelets, of considerable sentimental value.
The burglary took place at the house of Mr. G. A. Cohen, when only servants were there. It is believed that the raiders entered and leit by an open bedroom window while the occupants wore listening to the radio. No doors or windows were forced. The thieves confined their activities mainly •to the bedroom of Mr. Cohen's eldest daughter, who is a well-known composer professionally known as Miss Guime Creith. -
"I was away in the country," Miss Creith stated, "and the first I knew nbout the burglary was when my maid telephoned me.' I 'got back, to find my loom had been completely ransacked. The jewellery included my mother's engagement ring, and father's present to her when they were married —a pendant." ,•
"I discovered the burglary at nboqt 9.20 p.m.," Miss Crcith's personal maid related. "We had not Jjeard a sound, but when 1 went to the bedroom it was in complete disorder. Things from the wardrobe and drawers were strewn all over the floor.
"Miss Crcith's window was open, but otherwise there was no sign of the way in which the burglars had entered or loft. They must have climbed more than 12ft. and then dropped the same distance, carrying the fur coat and the jewellery."
