THE SOCCER GAME
REPRESENTATIVE MATCH ENCOUNTER WITH THE NAVY The first representative Soccer fixture of the season will be staged at Blandford Park to-day when Auckland will meet the Navy in the first of a series of three games for a special trophy. Owing to the fact that the senior competition games will be played in conjunction the selectors were unable to rhooso a truly representative Auckland team. However, a sound side will take the field this afternoon. The Navy team has been practising conscientiously in preparation for the match, which should provide spectacular play.
The two unbeaten teams in the senior championship, Thistle and Abels, will meet in the curtain-raiser on No. 1 ground. Thistle plays an orthodox type of game, while Abels exploits open tactics. An even contest should result. Onehunga'g recent improvement should stand the side in good stead in its match against Ponsonby on the Onehunga ground, while a very even contest should result in the meeting between Metro-C'ollego and Comrades at Western Springs, where a closo encounter is assured. Eastern Suburbs and North Slioro clash at St. Heliers.
