THE MILK COUNCIL

RECEIPTS AND EXPENSES HIGHER BILL FOR SALARIES A surplus of £173 was disclosed in the annual income and expenditure account of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council presented by tho secretary and treasurer, Mr. N, R. Chapman, at a meeting of the council vesterday. The Government auditor, Mr. Chapman said, had advised there would be no "tags" on the council's balancesheet.

Tho principal item of expenditure to show an increase was that for salaries and wages, £'3222 being paid as against £2611 last year. The higher sum was accounted for by the council's decision, made last year, to pay its employees according to the scalo provided for municipal employees. Fees for bacteriological tests amounted to £644 and car maintenance to £284. Revenue amounting to £5750 was received from levies, while the issue of licences brought a return of £927. Both these items showed, a decrease on the corresponding figures for last year. SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES CHAIRMAN'S CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to tho members of the. Auckland Milk Council who were successful at the municipal elections were extended by the chairman, Mr. I. -T. Goldstinc, at yesterday's meeting of the council. He hoped the members re-elected woidd have a long and successful term of office. "As one of the unsuccessful candidates, I trust our successors will have nn easier time than we had," said .Mr., N. V. Douglas, who failed to retain his seat jm the Auckland City Council. "When tho polls come round again, I will be there."

Mr. A. Rosser, who was also unsuccessful at the City Council election, said he was going to accept the hint tho electors had given him and take a holiday. The members of the council who retained their positions as a result of Wednesday's election are Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, Mayor of Devonport, and Mr. E. F. Andrews, city councillor.
