In a statement to-day the Ministcwj of Customs and Marketing, the Honji W. Nash, announced that an order which appears in this week's Gazette prohibiting the importation, save witit I) the consent of the Minister of Customs, of oranges, mandarins, grape.' fruit, lemons and bananas, is effectived ' in respect of such fruit from all coun« I tries, including the Cook Islands. As previously announced it is Government's plan to organise the'J marketing of imported citrus and bananas within the Dominion through the Internal Marketing De-j partment a.s the sole Dominion imJ ])orter. It is for the purpose of giving, effect to this policy that the prohibit tion has been made. It is understood that a number of im»/ , porters have made commitments for th«* purchase of citrus fruit from California,) vv£; arriving at Auckland by the Monterey to-morrow, the Niagara on May 30, th» Tolten on June 6 and the Aorangi on' c » June 26. Special permission will there*« fore be granted to importers who de«J sire to handle their own consignments by these boats.
