CHARADE TRIUMPHS CENTURY HURDLES WIN _ , I . # GAILY SCORES AS FAVOURITE iMrrriE takes sprint event [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WANGANUI, Thursday A brilliant day favoured the opening of the Wanganui Jockey Club's Winter .Meeting to-day and racing was held'on a track in excellent order. Form varied a good deal compared with that at' Egmont the previous week, both over the obstacles and on the flat, butjthe only, real surprise of the day was brought off by Collodion. The Century Hurdles was ivon by the Hawke's Bay mare Char.ade, and the Grandstand Steeplechase also went to tlio Bay when Count Willonyx Mas successful. A. Dods, owner and trainer of Count Willonvx, also trains the winner of the Maiden Handicap, Aria. The Wanganui-owncd and trained Gaily scored in the Con- , nolly Handicap. The only fall in the jumping races •was that of To Huia in the Purua Hurdles. :
There was a satisfactory attendance and tlio totalisator handled £15,840 for the eight races, against £ 12,822 for seven races last year, an increase of £'3olß. Details: —
