CARNIVAL AT DARGAVILLE SOME EXCELLENT DISPLAYS [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] BARGAVjILLE, Thursday Spirited boxing was provided at the first carnival of the new season staged by the Northern Wairoa Military Amateur Boxing Association in Dargaville last evening. Visiting boxers from Auckland and Whangarei gave excellent displays in competition with district exponents. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coatcs, patron of the association, presented the trophies won during tho evening and also the efficiency cup won by tho North Auckland Company at a recent camp at Papakura. In presenting tho cup to Major M. do It. Pctrie, Mr. Coates mado an appeal to tho younger men to join the movement. Major Petrie supported Mr. Coates' remarks. Following wero the results: — E. Boys, list 31b on points; W. Ferrell (Whangarei), list 41b, boat W. Little (Auckland), lOst 131b, on points; L. Banicevich, list, beat L. Hill, list, on a knock-out in the third round. Canavan, Bst Olb, on points in a special bout und for four rounds kept the crowd on itf toes Stock showed more experience and profited by Canavan's mistakes, particularly wild swings, which enabled him to get in close where he scored to advantage.
