THEFT OF JEWELS
HOUSE AT MOSMAN MAY BE WORK OF WOMAN [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY, May 7 Jewellery valued at £2OO was stolen from a house in Mosman on a recent night, and the police believe that a woman or a child may have committed the theft. The house was broken into while the owner, Mr. Walter Albert Neary, was visiting his wife, who is seriously ill in hospital. "T hare been away from the house for the same period every day for a week, and the thief was evidently aware of my movements." Mr Neary said.
The thief made a hole in a leadlight panel of the front door and turned the lock. It was only a small hole, and the thief must have a thin arm, the police say. The haul included a diamond ring worth £75 and other rings, three watches, and a number of other valuables. A box of 60 cigarettes was taken by the thief, who scorned cigars, brandy and whisky, which could just as easily have been obtained. The case is being investigated by Detective Hargrave, of Mosman. Another robbery in the locality a week ago is thought to have been the work of a woman.
