GREAT POPULARITY INTERESTING EXHIBITS TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME The continued popularity of the Auckland Winter Exhibition, which is being held at the Epsom Show Grounds, was reflected in the further largo crowds that thronged the pavilions yesterday. During the day children were admitted free, and full advantage was taken of the concession. An excellent innovation, and one of the many that have been made possible by the extra area available, is the parking space provided for motorists At one timo last evening there were nearly 600 vehicles parked in the area. Tho younger visitors again paid most attention to the sideshows and amusements, but much interest was displayed by adults in the various stalls and exhibits. The educational courts are particularly well set-out. Interests of Housewives Interests of housewives have not been neglected, there being displays of cookers, washing machines, sewing machines and cooking demonstrations. The display of work by members of the Women's Institutes also attracted much attention. Several ladies' riding events were held yesterday afternoon, among the riders being the Hons. Mary and Celia Monckton, daughters of the GovernorGeneral, Viscount Galway, and Viscountess Galway. In the evening another daring display of trick rkling was presented by the Siberian Cossacks, Ivan Petroff and Basil Redenki, this being followed by the final of tho Ben Hur chariot race. The poultry show being held under the control of the Auckland Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club opened yesterday morning, and judging of the entries occupied most of the day. The birds will bo on view to-day and to-morrow. Exciting Entertainment Two riding events, the consolation pony jumping event and the consolation hunters' event, to be held this afternoon, should prove excellent entertainment. To-night the draught horse derby for lady riders is to be run, while greyhound racing will also be held in the oval. The Mount Eden Boys' Band will present numbers throughout the evening. One of the most exciting items of entertainment on the programme to be presented to-morrow night will be the appearance of Jack Watts and his "crash artists" in a number of thrilling turns.
, BAKERS' COMPETITION RESULTS OF THE JUDGING Entries in the bakers' section of the Auckland Winter Exhibition were judged yesterday, the results being as follows: —Best commercial loaf: Homestead Bakeries, Limited, 1; David Leach, Paeroa, 2; Stacey and Hawker, Limited, 3. Block cakes (2): Stormonts, Limited, 1; W. A. Willey, 2. New Zealand championship: Homestead Bakeries, Limited, 1. LADIES' BIDING EVENTS A HIGH STANDARD SET 1 ~ A high standard of horsemanship was displayed at the show yesterday afternoon when several events for ladv riders were held. Among the competitors were the Hons. Mary and Celia Monckton, daughters of the GovernorGeneral, Viscount Galway and Viscountess Galway. Results were as follows:—Maiden hunter event: Miss Dorothy Davidson's Big Bertha, 1; Miss Margot Watt's Hindu, 2; the Hon. Mary Monckton s Peggy, 3. Lightweight huntei;: Mrs. Piri Dixon's Nobby, 1; J. R- Townsend's Illuminator,.2; J. R. Townsend's Monoplane, 3. Heavyweight hunter: J. R.. Townsend's Monoplane, 1; Miss Dorothy Davidson's Big Bertha, 2; J. R. Townsend's Illuminator, 3. Best lady rider: Miss Dorothy Davidson, 1; Miss Beryl Masters. '2; Mrs. Hall. 3.
