BEAUTIFUL HAIR

IMPORTANCE OF BRUSHING
"FASHIONABLE COIFFURES NEW STYLES IN DRESSING
' LONDON, April 13 The first step toward beautiful hair is a healthy head. It is impossible to havtf a good set or stylo if tho scalp is covered in dandruff and the hair lustreless. The most effective and tho cheapest euro for hair and scalp ills is good old-fashioned brushing. I know you have probably heard this before, but hero are some real brushing tips which sound like senso to me. „
First of all your brush; choose n good bristle one. The bristle will bend .as you brush and set up a natural stimulation. Wiro bristles merely scratch tho scalp surface and cause stoppage of tho oil glands —just as not brushing at all does. Brush tho hair vigorously in all directions, and, lastly, in tho direction in which you have had it set, until your scalp feels warm and tingly. Po not go on longer than this or you will causo irritation. If you follow this advico every night for a fortnight, my hairdresser promises mo you -will clear up every scrap of dandruff. Net Sleeping Caps When tho brushing is done, give your lead a littlo gentle massage, jibly with a reliable skin tonic, or if your 5 , scalp is dry, a drop of macassar oil. Now carefully comb your set into place, and .wherever it looks a little tired, pin At, beiug careful not to strain -the hair 'back tightly or pin it in the wrong place. Now wear a light net sleeping cap, either a triang, ular ono such as is often used for setting, or ii real cap that ties under the chin. But whatever you do, make sure that it is' not tight and that tho pins do not stick into you. Peaceful sleep is ©very bit as important to your good looks as a trim head. Now that we have decided to look after -our heads, let us consider a few styles. First of all, the general trends—to" have tho hair drawn upwards, both at the sides and back, and away from tho brow. To have big watch-spring curls —so called because they are flat and loose and somewhat resemble a
watch-spring in shape. Very set-look-ing styles .and plastic treatments are ■waning in popularity. Although tho hair is set it must endeavour to look as soft and natural as possible. Often the back hair is allowed to grow quite long, but only so that it may be pulled upward from the napo. in curls, and the actual effect is shorter than' the more usual roll. This is an excellent style for parties—some women have curls all over tho tops of ; their heads in almost du Barry style. Popular New Stylos
My sketches show two treatments which hare become exceedingly popular here, and which were seen everywhere over the Christmas week-end. l<irst of all at the top is a beautifully symmetrical Edwardian coronet effect, swept up and away from the forehead and curled under all round the head. Any ornament worn in the evening should bo placed at the back, very low as shown in my sniall skotch. Below is a variation of the pageboy style. Largo curls are softly piled high on the head in front; tlio sides are brushed upward and turned outward; the back is turned down and under. .The smaller sketch shows the daytime arrangement of tho style with the fcurls made into a roll which sits closer to the head and gives a neater if less exotic effect. You will notice that in this stylo the hair is brushed hack to a wave on tho top'of tho head before the actual curls begin. Foreheads are extremely important in all the new styles. Tho hair is almost invariably drawn hack and unless your hrow is wrinkled or so receding that hair brushed up and back is fatal to your good looks, your hairdresser can usually modify a smart coiffure to suit you.
If 4 however, you have a smooth brow, you will be happy ns a sandboy in almost any style. Please remember that your hair is all-important to your good looks. It is no good spending pounds on a Paris hat and the leftover pennies on your coiffure. Time and money are well investod on your hair. A well-groomed, shining head can make your whole outfit.
